为软甲纲，沙蟹科，招潮蟹属的动物。分布于朝鲜西岸、日本、澳大利亚、新加坡、菲律宾、台湾岛以及中国大陆的广东、福建、浙江、山东等地。最大的特征是雄蟹具有一对大小悬殊的螯，摆在前胸的大螯像是武士的盾牌。生活环境为海水,喜欢栖息在较为泥泞的沼泽。
