戴胜，体长26～28cm，栖息于山地、平原、森林、林缘、路边、河谷、农田、草地、村屯和果园等开阔地方，尤其以林缘耕地较为常见。多单独或成对活动。主要以虫类为食。活泼，不太怕人。选择天然树洞和啄木鸟凿空的蛀树孔营巢产卵，有时也筑巢在岩石缝隙、堤岸洼坑、断墙残垣的窟窿中。每年5、6月繁殖一窝。每窝通常产卵7～9枚，少则5枚，多则12枚。主要分布在欧洲、亚洲和北非地区。在中国有广泛分布。以色列国鸟。
Eurasian Hoopoe belongs to the order of Coraciiformes, the length of body is 26 ~ 28cm.Inhabited in the open areas of mountain, plain, forest, roadside, river valley, farmland, grassland, village and orchard, especially in forest margin.They are often separate or paired activities.It mainly lives on worms.They are lively and not too shy. Eurasian Hoopoe:Knocking at the door of spring
戴胜飞行的姿态像展翅的蝴蝶。它们边飞边鸣，发出“呼—呼—呼”的叫声，颇为有趣。戴胜的头冠像羽扇，黑白羽翼像张开的大氅，很有将军的气度。特别是口中衔着胖墩墩的大肉虫往“树洞”里送食的时候，专注的目光灼灼放光，攀援的双爪几乎扣到树皮里去了。真帅！
每当听到戴胜用长长的嘴敲打树干，寻找病虫的时候，噢，那声音，仿佛是远游归来的人，急切地扣打着春天的门扉。它在激动地告诉人们：春天来了！
那天在野外，我们见到长在水渠边的柳树上有两个树洞：一个，很显然是树在生长过程中遗留下来的死穴；另一个，就是戴胜的“家”了。如果不仔细看，会以为那也是树的死穴呢。我们刚停好车，就见一只戴胜攀升、俯冲，快速地从洞里飞了出去。洞口比成人拇指与中指环起来的空间大不了多少，黑，且看不清，又不敢靠得太近。恍惚间，我觉得好像有什么灰乎乎的“小东西”在不停地晃动。一定是小戴胜！
果然！不久，那只戴胜亲鸟叼着虫子、扇着翅膀，飞回来了。戴胜不是直奔洞口，而是绕着柳树盘旋几圈，才飞到洞口。它也并不是直接落到树干上，而是悬着空——它的速度太快了，不到三两秒的工夫，我根本没有看清戴胜母子是怎样完成食物交接的。这说明小戴胜一直在洞口附近等着妈妈呢。口对口喂完食物之后，戴胜妈妈拍拍翅膀，绕过柳树，又向稻田那边飞去了。
戴胜是有名的食虫鸟，主要以金针虫、蝼蛄、天牛幼虫等害虫为食，且食量很大。所以，它们是保护森林和农田的好助手。
不过，戴胜还有个不雅的俗称：臭姑姑。为什么？戴胜幼雏孵化后，卵壳就会被亲鸟吃掉或衔出巢外，但堆积在巢穴里的粪便它们从不清理。加之雌鸟在孵卵期间，会从尾脂腺分泌出一种恶臭的褐色油液。因此，巢中污秽不堪，在所难免。看来，人无完人，鸟无完鸟啊。

Eurasian Hoopoe is a famous insectivorous bird and has a big appetite,which mainly lives on bad insects such as golden needle worm, mole cricket, and the larvae of tianniu.So they are good assistants to protect forests and farmland.
However, Eurasian Hoopoe has an indecent name:stinky aunt.Why is that?When they hatch, the shell of eggs are eaten by the bird parents or taken out of the nest, but the feces that are deposited in the nest are never cleaned.During the incubation period, the female bird secretes a malodorous brown oil from the fat glands.Therefore, it is inevitable that the nest is filthy.It seems that no one is perfect and birds are not perfect too.
