又叫花鲢、胖头鱼、包头鱼、大头鱼、黑鲢、麻鲢。辐鳍鱼纲，新鳍亚纲，鲤形目，鲤科，鲢属。中国特有，多分布在淡水区域的中上层。为温水性鱼类，在中国从南方到北方几乎淡水流域都有。是池塘养殖及水库渔业的主要对象之一，经济价值较高有"水中清道夫"的雅称，是中国四大家鱼之一。
