俗称狮子鱼、短狮、红虎、鸡公。鲉科，分布于印度-太平洋区，西起红海、东非，东到美属萨摩亚，北至日本南部与小笠原群岛，南至澳洲与罗得豪岛。台湾各地均有分布。
