属硬骨鱼亚纲，鲈形目，金线鱼科，金线鱼属。主要分布于印度洋和太平洋西部。
主要栖息于沿岸及近海砂泥底质的水域，栖息深度可达80公尺深。主要觅食甲壳类、头足类或其他小鱼等。
