反嘴鹬，涉水鸟。体长38～45cm，体高约43cm。单独或成对活动。善游泳，能在水中倒立。主要以甲壳类、水生昆虫、昆虫幼虫、蠕虫和软体动物等小型无脊椎动物为食。进食时，嘴巴往两边不停扫动。飞行时，快速振翼，并作长距离滑翔。繁殖期为5～7月。营巢于开阔平原上的湖泊岸边、盐碱地上或沙滩上、沿海沼泽边的裸露干地上。常成群繁殖，有时巢间距仅1m左右。每窝产卵4枚，偶尔3枚或5枚。在中国分布于新疆、青海、内蒙古、辽宁、吉林等省。越冬于西藏南部、广东、福建和香港等南部沿海省区。
The Pied Avocet is a kind of the waterfowl which belongs to the order of Charadriiformes.The length of body is 38 ~ 45cm and the height of body is about 43cm.They are separate or paired activities and are good at swimming.It mainly lives on small invertebrates such as crustaceans, aquatic insects, insect larvae, worms and mollusks.When eating, their mouth moves on both sides.The breeding period is from May to July.Inhabited in the dry land on the shores of lakes, saline-alkali lands or sandy beaches on the open plains.They often breed in groups, and there are 4 eggs in each nest, occasionally 3 or 5.It is distributed in xinjiang, qinghai, Inner Mongolia, liaoning and jilin provinces,and spend winter in the south of Tibet, guangdong, fujian and Hong Kong.

反嘴鹬，因嘴细长、尖、上翘而得名。嘴是它们的器官，也是取食工具。反嘴鹬是黑白色鹬，长腿为灰色。飞行时，会看到它们洁白的体羽、黑色的翼尖。
像所有鸟类一样，幼雏破壳之后，反嘴鹬就会带着幼雏到水边觅食。为使幼雏得到休息和保护，反嘴鹬亲鸟经常跪下来，让幼雏钻到它的翅膀下面。反嘴鹬的长腿像天然的支架，折叠成高矮适中的柱状支撑，与胸部的“屋顶”、张开的羽翼，共同构成一间温暖的“爱巢”——反嘴鹬对幼雏的怜爱之情，可见一斑。
爱孩子的前提，不仅是疼爱，更重要的是要保证生命安全。在这方面，反嘴鹬堪称湿地“智多星”。
有一次，一只反嘴鹬正带着幼雏觅食、玩耍。幼雏忽左忽右跟在亲鸟的身边，一会儿仰起脸看着亲鸟叫两声；一会儿跑到滩涂上东啄啄、西叨叨。亲鸟也慈爱地望着幼雏。如此情景真是温馨、动人！摄影人马上拉出“长枪短炮”，正要拍摄，却见反嘴鹬忽然甩掉幼雏，在地面上艰难地拖拉着它的左翅，面露凄切神色，并朝他们的方向跑来。
“哦，是只伤鹬！”所有人的目光都集中到“受伤”的反嘴鹬身上，并为它的病情担忧。
过了一会儿，不知是谁说了一句：“小鹬哪儿去了？”他们转过头去找，却见反嘴鹬幼雏正朝他们相反的方向，奔跑。
“小鹬怎么了？”他们仍在狐疑不解，却见“受伤”的反嘴鹬一下子飞了起来！原来，反嘴鹬确认幼雏已逃离危险现场——“演出”可以结束了！
噢，反嘴鹬用佯装受伤的方式吸引人们的视线，以便让幼雏脱离“险境”：为了防御外来侵犯，亲爱的鸟儿用了多少智慧？仔细想想，不禁汗颜……
