天鹅是一种冬候鸟，喜欢群栖在湖泊和沼泽地带，主要以水生植物为食。
在中国，每年3、4月间，它们大群地从南方飞向北方，在中国北部边疆省份产卵繁殖。雌天鹅都是在每年的5月间产下2、3枚卵，然后雌鹅孵卵，雄鹅守卫在身旁，一刻也不离开。一过10月份，它们就会结队南迁。在南方气候较温暖的地方越冬，养息。繁殖期主要栖息于开阔的湖泊、水塘、沼泽、水流缓慢的河流和邻近的苔原低地和苔原沼泽地上，冬季主要栖息在多芦苇、蒲草和其他水生植物的大型湖泊、水库、水塘与河湾地方，也出现在湿草地和水淹平原、沼泽、海滩及河口地带，有时甚至出现在农田原野。20余只组成小群，排成“一” 字或“人”字队行，边飞边鸣。每年9月中旬南迁，常常6～8月在北方。
天鹅是飞高冠军，飞行高度可达9千米，能飞越世界最高山峰——珠穆朗玛峰
大天鹅，体型高大，体长120～160cm，体重8～12kg，寿命20～25年。嘴黑，嘴基有大片黄色，黄色延至上喙侧缘成尖。栖息于开阔的、水生植物繁茂的浅水水域。除繁殖期外成群生活，昼夜均有活动游泳。迁徙时，常成6～20只的小群或家族群迁飞，边飞边鸣。性机警、胆怯，善叫。国家二级保护动物。分布于亚洲，冬季分布于中国长江流域及附近湖泊；春季迁经华北、新疆、内蒙古而到黑龙江、蒙古人民共和国及西伯利亚等地繁殖。
Whooper Swan is a kind of large waterfowl which belongs to the order of Anseriformes . The body length is 120～160cm,the weight is 8～12kg,and life span is 20-25 years.It has black mouth with a large yellow and extension to the top of the beak edge of the tip.They inhabit in the open and shallow waters with rich aquatic plants. In addition to the breeding season,they always fly outside in group.They are National secondary protected animals. Distributed in Asia, the Yangtze River in China and nearby lakes in winter; and moved to the North of China, Xinjiang, Inner Mongolia and Heilongjiang, the People's Republic of Mongolia,Siberia and other places to reproduce in spring.
世界上有5种天鹅，中国有大天鹅、疣鼻天鹅和小天鹅3种。大天鹅的身体肥硕而丰满，脖子长度是鸟类中占身体长度比例较大的，甚至超过了身体长度。
每年春天，大天鹅从山东荣城向北迁徙，途经辽河口湿地时，休整一个月左右，再继续飞往内蒙古。怎么知道大天鹅来自荣城呢？是它们身上的水锈透露了秘密。荣城的海边生长着一种海草，正是大天鹅喜爱的食物。它们不顾“吃相”，久而久之，大天鹅的羽毛就被蹭上了水锈的颜色。
大天鹅很有安全意识，它们很少在陆地上逗留，而是降落到苇田中较宽阔的水面上，张开的蹼像船的甲板，先稳稳地着水，再平衡身体缓慢落下。那气势，真像一艘艘“小航母”。
大天鹅集体观念非常强，虽然迁徙中偶以家庭为单位活动，但晚上休息时，它们会集中在一起，互相照应。
大天鹅还特别讲究民主，起飞和降落都要由“头领”向它们征求意见：“孩子们，做好准备了吗？先试试你们的翅膀好吗？”待大天鹅们同意后，它们还要整理队形。然后，“头领”点头示意，高声鸣叫，队伍才能隆重地启程。
大天鹅的羽毛丰厚、细密，全身的羽毛有2万多根。所以，零下36～48℃露宿，它们也能安然无恙。大天鹅是世界上飞得最高的鸟类之一，能飞越世界屋脊珠穆朗玛峰，说明它们的最高飞行高度可达9000米以上。
大天鹅是天生的“忠贞之鸟”，一方不幸死去，另一方便日夜哀鸣，宁愿终生孤单。相传，在青海的天鹅湖里生活着一对天鹅。某年秋天，雌鸟不幸死去，雄鸟守着亡鸟不离左右。当人们把亡鸟抬走时，雄鸟在空中久久盘旋，迟迟不肯离开。第二年春天，人们惊诧地发现，那只雄鸟又飞来原处悼念“亡妻”……
在西方国家，天鹅是高贵、纯洁的象征。在我国，它同样是气度非凡、仪态万方的“水禽之王”，具有王者的尊严和气质。
There are five species of swans in the world, 3 species in China including whooper Swan, mute swan and little swan. The body is plump and the neck length is in a large proportion of birds, even more than the body length.
Every spring, the whooper Swan migrates to north from Rongcheng, Shandong, staying at the Liaohekou wetland for about a month, and then continue to fly to Inner Mongolia. They have safe conscious and collective concept, they rarely stay on land, but landed on the wider water surface of the reed,they will be together to take care of each other at rest time in the evening.They also pay special attention to democracy, before flying and landing,their "leader" will ask them for advice.
Their feather is rich and fine, which is more than 20,000 roots in the body. So, they can be safe and sleep sound after minus 36 ~ 48 ℃.They can fly very high , also can fly over the roof of the world Mount Everest, indicating that their maximum flying height is up to 9000 meters.
Whooper Swan is a natural "faithful bird", one of the couple unfortunately died, another would be sad day and night and would rather life alone.In the West, the swan is a noble and pure symbol.
